How is it that water lilies can smell so beautiful when they grow in such nasty water?

I never gor around to smelling a water lily as I'm too scared of falling in the dirty water! :) seriously: I didn't know they smelt at all...

Wow, what a lovely picture. I love lotus flowers. I think I read something about them being compared to people reaching enlightenment. They grow up from muddy depths, yet blossem into beautiful flowers ^_^
